  9. <p>Formed at Shaw AFB as the 20th Fighter Wing in August 1947, the unit was redesignated 20th Fighter-Bomber Wing in January 1950. The wing moved to Langley AFB in November 1951 for six months before transferring from TAC to USAFE for assignment at RAF Wethersfield with the F-84. Equipment was upgraded to the F-100D in 1957, with the unit designation changing to 20th Tactical Fighter Wing in July 1958. The unit moved to RAF Upper Heyford in April 1970 where it converted to the F-111E, with the EF-111A added later. F-111Es and EF-111As supported Desert Storm while operating from Incirlik AB with the 7440th Provisional Wing. Inactivated in December 1993, the unit reformed at Shaw AFB on 1 January 1994, replacing the 363rd FW.
